Do Orange Glasses Really Help You Sleep Better?

Have you been wondering why people have started wearing these snazzy, orange coloured glasses? More than just a statement accessory, these orange lensed specs have been designed to block out the artificial blue light that’s emitted by everything from fluorescent lighting to television screens to smartphones.

If you’re struggling to fall asleep at night, or stay asleep throughout the night, it could be as a result of the blue light your exposed to throughout your daily life.

As sleep quality is so important to the mind and body, knowing there’s an accessory out there which can help to improve sleep is really exciting for those who suffer with problems sleeping and are looking for ways to improve their sleep naturally.

Having poor sleep can have a great impact on your mood, hormones and fertility. And though it’s impossible to remove blue light from your life altogether in this modern world, it is possible to reduce its effects on your health and wellbeing by wearing a simple pair of glasses for as little as one hour a day.

Watch this Fertility Tv episode where I go over how sleep is affecting your fertility and what to do about it.

What’s the Problem with Blue Light?

Artificial light (or blue light) can interrupt your body’s normal sleep patterns. When artificial light is added to a human’s day, it confuses the body’s natural rhythms and can lead to problems when trying to fall asleep and stay asleep.

Blue light interferes with your body’s natural circadian rhythm: an internal, biological clock which controls the timing of your body’s many physiological functions, including feeding patterns, sleeping patterns and hormone production.

Our circadian rhythms are set by the amount of light and dark our bodies are exposed to throughout the day. When we are only exposed to natural light, our body knows to prepare for sleep as the sun goes down and naturally wakes us up once it rises again in the morning.

The blue light emitted from our smartphones, tablets, televisions and lightbulbs, however, mean that we are now receiving light all of the time – no matter what time of day it is. This creates havoc for our natural rhythms, leading to troublesome and irregular sleep.

Too much blue light can seriously repress the production of the hormone melatonin which is responsible for regulating our sleep-wake cycle. Melatonin production is supposed to naturally increase at night time to help us fall asleep, but our constant exposure to blue light inhibits that production.

Studies have also shown that low levels of melatonin can make it harder for you to conceive. Which leads us on to how poor sleep can negatively affect your fertility.

How Does Sleep Affect my Fertility?

Sleep is a fundamental part of balancing your mind with your body and is important when it comes to regulating your hormones and repairing damaged cells.

Everything in your body is connected. The hormones that trigger ovulation have been linked to the body’s sleep-wake pattern. Therefore, a long-term lack of sleep could directly affect the release of the hormone responsible for triggering ovulation, resulting in menstrual irregularity – meaning that it could take you much longer to conceive.

As well as causing a disruption to hormone balance, poor sleep can affect your fertility in a number of indirect ways. Having trouble sleeping can have negative affects on your mood and general wellbeing, which ultimately results in further problems when trying to sleep as well as in your enjoyment of day-to-day life.

There’s nothing worse than going to bed exhausted yet lying, staring at the ceiling, because you just can’t seem to fall asleep.

Experiencing this restlessness on a regular basis can cause mood swings, frustration, fatigue and irritability. The stress this causes can then increase your cortisol levels which can, in turn, further prevent you from being able to enjoy relaxing, quality sleep.

How Will Wearing Glassess Improve My Sleep?

If, like me, you enjoy sitting down to watch some Netflix before bed, or you respond to some work emails in the evening or scroll through funny videos on Facebook, you’re also going to be exposing yourself to artificial or blue light.

Screens are a massive part of our modern lives, and while we can limit the amount of time we use them in the evening, eradicating them altogether is just not a realistic expectation.

Aiming to use your devices more responsibly is fundamental to the overall quality of your sleep and the elimination of the affects that blue light exposure can have on it.

Swannies Glasses have been designed to block out the blue light that’s being emitted from all light-emitting electronic devises and artificial lighting.

Wearing the glasses for as little as one hour before you go to bed has been shown to significantly reduce the effects of blue light exposure on sleep (using them for longer periods of time, or all of the time when you are viewing a screen will have a greater effect).

Blocking blue light allows your body to properly prepare for sleep, so you can fall asleep faster, and sleep better, all night long. When worn during prolonged use of electronic devices, they can also help to prevent symptoms of digital eye strain such as sore eyes, headaches and fatigue.

Did You Know?

Did you know that your electronic devices are also emitting harmful radiation (EMF)? Electronic radiation links to adverse side effects, and manufacturers are already starting to add warnings in their fine print. Safe Sleeve have phone, tablet and laptop cases that will block over 99% of the harmful radiation that’s being emitted by your electronic devices.

I think we can all agree on sleep being so important to health and fertility. We think Swannies Glasses are an amazingly simple way to naturally improve your sleep pattern without having to make drastic lifestyle changes or rely on medication to help you sleep.

Having healthy, regulated sleep is such an important step to balancing your mind with your body, and is one of the 12 key areas that affect your fertility.

Getting sufficient sleep, reducing stress levels, eating a balanced and nourishing diet, and making changes to bad lifestyle choices can significantly improve your fertility. Your reproductive health relies on you having a good overall physical and mental health – of which, sleep is just one component.
