Hi and welcome to Fertility TV. My name is Doctor Mark Sklar and I’m the Fertility Expert. I work with couples from all over the world with my online programs and here locally here in my clinics in San Diego to help couples and individuals get pregnant and have healthy babies.
And so in this video we’re going to be talking about the little things and the little things that you can do to help you get pregnant faster. At the end of the video I’m going to give you a little link to help you take my fertility quiz and find how fertile you are, so stay tuned.
So when couples and patients approach me about getting pregnant, I often get the question, and it looks something like this like, “What’s the magic…what’s the one pill? What’s the one thing that I can do to get pregnant?” I get these emails all the time from women all over the world, “Please help me get pregnant…what can I do? What can I change?” And unfortunately I don’t think of things like that, okay, I don’t think about the magic pill, the magic thing, the one herb, the one procedure you know. I’m not looking for what’s that one thing that’s going to fix the issue, I’m looking at a…I’m looking at the bigger picture and a combination of things, which is why I call this “The Little Things”.
So for me it rarely works in terms of the one magic thing, and if it does happen that way, it’s not very often. It’s usually because I don’t know what one thing, what one key is going to open the door to pregnancy and to a healthy baby, so I don’t like to just focus in on one thing, I want to look at all of these things. And so it’s about finding the combination of things together that’s going to work for you. And so this is why I call it like “The Magic Recipe” , if you will; we’re taking all of these little things and we’re putting it into the pot and we’re going to cook them together, and usually it’s that combination of cooking the little things together that makes the bigger result that we’re looking for – conception, and hopefully to a healthy pregnancy and healthy baby. So some of the things that I want you to think about, and some of the things that I think you can be doing that make up your little things in your daily life and week and month are these. So these are just a couple of things, they’re not the end-all be-all in terms of a list but just a couple of ideas…some ideas:
First, I want you to take five to ten minutes out of your day and meditate, it can just be at the beginning of the day, I like…I find it more useful and I like to do it in the middle of the day when I need a little break. We’ve had that…if you’ve been sleeping all night, you wake up and you just say “Okay I’m going to get going with my day…”. So I like to do this in the middle of a day, I need a little break from seeing patients and just to detach my mind and take a breath. So five to ten minutes, maybe take a little walk and just focus on your breath.
One of my favorite things is spending time with friends and family. I don’t think we do this enough and I don’t think we value this enough, and this should be a regular thing, part of your regular weekly routine of spending quality time with quality friends who make you feel happy.
Number Three is you know maybe escaping from the craziness of the city life and going for a hike out in nature, or going camping for a day or two with…and being able to detach from TV and news and your cell phones, although that might scare some of you but it’s a wonderful idea. And then we get consumed with making these big sweeping changes in our diet, but how about we just go back to a couple of little things, little changes in our diet, one to two minor tweaks or adjustments in your diet that’s going to make things that much better.
Maybe starting a gratitude journal, writing in your journal every day of the things that you’re grateful for in that day. And then one of the things that I like to do is adding in a Qigong or Yoga into my weekly practice. You don’t have to do it a lot, but again, it’s kind of part of that meditation practice, at least it is for me.
So individually they might not seem like big things, but together they can be really big things. And that’s what that magic pot is of stirring it all together and making small changes to have a bigger impact towards a greater hold of a pregnancy.
